Knighton is a small market town in Powys, Wales, on the River Teme and the English-Welsh border. Knighton railway station, as well as a small part of the town, is in Shropshire, England. The name derives from the Old English for "A settlement of servants". This Anglo-Saxon settlement later became a Norman fortified town. Tref-y-clawdd, its Welsh name, means "town on the dyke" and was first recorded in 1262.
