Chelmsford () is the principal settlement of the City of Chelmsford district, and the county town of Essex, in the East of England. It is located in the London commuter belt, approximately 32 miles northeast of the notional centre of London at Charing Cross and approximately 22 miles from Colchester. The urban area of the city has a population of approximately 120,000, whilst the district has a population of 168,310. The main conurbation of Chelmsford incorporates all or part of the former parishes of Broomfield, Great Baddow, Galleywood, Writtle, Moulsham, Widford, and Springfield, including Springfield Barnes, now known as Chelmer Village.

Royal Horticultural Society Garden, Hyde Hall

RHS Garden Hyde Hall is a public display garden run by the Royal Horticultural Society in the English county of Essex, east of London. It is one of four public gardens run by the Society, alongside Wisley in Surrey, RHS Garden Harlow Carr in North Yorkshire, and RHS Garden Rosemoor in Devon. The garden at Hyde Hall was created by Dr and Mrs Robinson in 1955. Hyde Hall was formerly a working farm on a hilltop surrounded by arable land. The site was cleared and 60 trees purchased from Wickford market a few miles away. These trees now form the Woodland Garden.

Chelmsford railway station is on the Great Eastern Main Line in the East of England, serving the city of Chelmsford, Essex. It is 29 miles 60 chains down the line from London Liverpool Street and is situated between Ingatestone to the west and Hatfield Peverel and to the east. Its three-letter station code is CHM. The station is currently operated by Greater Anglia, who also operate all trains serving it, as part of the East Anglia franchise. Westbound trains terminate at Liverpool Street and eastbound trains run to a number of destinations including Braintree, Clacton-on-Sea, Colchester Town, Ipswich and Norwich.
