Jetstar Airways is one of the major airlines in Australia. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Qantas. One of the biggest competitors is the Virgin Blue Airlines.
There are sister airlines with similar names: Jetstar Asia Airways based in Singapore and Jetstar Pacific Airlines based in Vietnam.
The airline operates an extensive domestic network as well as regional and international services from its main base at Melbourne Airport, using a mixed fleet of the Airbus A320 family and the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Like its Qantas parent, Jetstar competes with Virgin Australia and Virgin’s fully owned low-cost subsidiary Tigerair Australia.
👜 Baggage regulations at Jetstar Airways
There are strict weight and size limits to how much carry-on baggage you can bring on board:
Economy Starter, Starter Plus and Starter Max passengers: a main item and a small item, with a combined weight of no more than 7kg. Passengers with a Flex bundle or +3kg carry-on top-up: a main item and a small item with a combined weight of no more than 10kg (+3kg carry-on top-up available, except for bookings to, from or within Vietnam). Business Class passengers: two main items and a small item adding up to no more than 14kg. Your main item (or items in Business Class) must fit in the overhead lockers and be no larger than 56cm (height) x 36cm (width) x 23cm (depth). Your small item must fit under the seat in front of you. If you exceed either size or weight limits, charges will apply at the airport.
Check in Baggage:
Economy Starter fares: No checked baggage allowance included. You can purchase a 15kg, 20kg, 25kg, 30kg, 35kg or 40kg baggage allowance.
Economy Starter fare with Plus bundle: 20kg checked baggage allowance (up to 10kg for Jetstar Japan (GK) domestic flights). You can purchase up to an additional 20kg if you need it (up to 30kg for Jetstar Japan (GK) domestic flights).
Economy Starter fare with Max bundle: 30kg checked baggage allowance. You can purchase up to an additional 10kg if you need it.
Economy Starter fare with Flex bundle No checked baggage allowance included. You can purchase a 15kg, 20kg, 25kg, 30kg, 35kg or 40kg baggage allowance.
Business fare and Business fare with Max bundle: 30kg of checked baggage allowance. You can buy up to an additional 10kg of checked baggage allowance.
Please note: If your itinerary includes Jetstar Airways (JQ), Jetstar Asia (3K) or Jetstar Pacific (BL) flights connecting to Jetstar Japan (GK) domestic flights, the higher baggage allowance will be applied to all flights in the itinerary.
There are some things you may be able to bring as checked baggage for free. If you’re travelling with an infant or young child, you may bring a pram, portable cot, high chair and approved car seat. You may bring a wheelchair if you need one. (Size and weight restrictions apply.)
Baggage allowance weights apply per passenger with a seat, per flight. Your baggage allowance is given by combined weight, not by number of bags. As long as your bags have a combined weight within your allowance, you can bring as many as you like. The maximum checked baggage allowance per person is 40kgs and no single bag can weigh more than 32kg.
Please note that size and weight limits apply for checked baggage.
